An Introduction (Brief, maybe long, let's see)

Right, it's about time I actually posted something on this here little blog o' mine so, yeah here goes.

To introduce myself would be a good start I suppose, my name is John and I currently live in the town I was raised in, Carlow, which, for any non-Irish reading this, is a small-to-medium sized (at least in Irish terms) town in the south east of the island of Ireland, in a small Irish county of the same name (Carlow, for those of a miniscule level of concentration ;) ).

I'm 30 something (always wanted to say that, I'm actually 35 year old, FWIW), I'm currently "in between jobs", to use that boring, somewhat misleading cliche for being unemployed.

My political views would be what many would call "Centre-Left" and "Liberal", though the full truth of my political/social/life views would be a fair bit more nuanced than that, but hey, we're all big into labels and all that jazz, aren't we?

As regards to religion, I'd be what the Irish comedian (some might argue otherwise on the "comedian" bit) Dara O'Brien has called a "cultural catholic", in that I'd have some of the "leftovers" of said religion/faith, but without the actual religion bit and the believing in god or any higher being.
Though having said that, I'm not necessarily anti-religion, for reasons I'll talk about shortly, I just don't, never have and never will, have any belief in any "god"/higher being/"spirituality"/etc.

The main reason I'm not anti-religion, while being stridently and assuredly atheist, is because of how I was raised by my parents, and specifically my father, who was quite stridently religious (catholic, as you may have probably guessed), but was always accepting of other peoples views on religion, good, bad or indifferent. I guess it's those liberal views of religious views other than his own, and his general liberal views on most other things, is also probably the main reason why I myself am also very liberal in my viewpoint on this world of ours.

I think I'll probably wrap this first blog post (of how many, who knows!) now as I'm beginning to bore myself now, as well as you, dear, unfortunate reader, so I'll say goodbye for now and hope you'll read some more of my ramblings (the old "faecal natter" of the blog title ;) ) in the near and not-quite-as-near future!

See ya, CTB.
